Our Patron–St Kuriakose Elias Chavara

Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara (1805-1871) was a Indian Catholic priest, religious founder, and social reformer. He is the first Indian Catholic male saint and one of the earliest saints from India. Chavara was a pioneer in many fields, including education, social reform, and spiritual renewal. He founded the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), a religious congregation, and the Congregation of the Mother of Carmel(CMC), a women's religious congregation.
Chavara was a champion of education, and his efforts led to the establishment of many schools and educational institutions in Kerala. He also worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the poor and marginalized, and his legacy continues to inspire generations. Chavara was beatified in 1986 and canonized in 2014 by Pope Francis. His feast day is celebrated on January 3. He is revered as a champion of education, social justice, and spiritual renewal, and his legacy continues to inspire people around the world.
